Career History

Kate was in Allen & Overy LLP’s Banking & Finance Litigation team in London until 2009 where she handled a range of disputes, often high value and multi party. She has background knowledge in sectors ranging from banking to shipping and insurance and is able to quickly acquire the requisite level of knowledge about a sector.

Prior to that, Kate worked in New York as an International Associate with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP from 2001-2002 (where her cases included the defence of securities class actions for banks and corporates) and on a secondment to Morgan Stanley’s litigation team from 2000-2001.

Kate worked in London with Allen & Overy LLP as an Associate in the Litigation department from 1998-2000 and as a trainee solicitor from 1996-1998 (with 6 months of her training contract completed in Allen & Overy’s New York office). This followed a period after law school working as a Law Clerk for Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney in 1995.


Other Relevant Experience

Kate has assisted as part of CEDR’s training faculty in training lawyers on advocacy skills in mediations.

She has also been trained and selected as a Panel Mediator for the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and regularly mediates cases on their behalf.

Kate completed CEDR’s Advanced Certificate in Negotiation in 2010.

Whilst practising as a lawyer, Kate advised regularly on a pro bono basis at the Battersea Law Centre in London from 1996-2008.


Qualifications

Kate accredited as a Mediator with CEDR in 2005.

She was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in 2002 and was admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 1998.

Kate completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law (Guildford) in 1995 (with Distinction) and graduated from the University of Southampton with an LL.B (Honours) in 1994.
